Sizzle with Bella Boudoir

Boudoir photography is growing in popularity!  I have been doing makeup for boudoir photo sessions for over 5 years now, maybe longer?  I am fascinated by how lovely women look when they get in front of the camera for their husband or fiance.
If you are thinking of having some boudoir images for yours and his keepsake, please consider Bella Boudoir, in the heart of downtown KC.  Petra is the photographer and she is so funny and makes you feel at ease as soon as you arrive.  Her studio is intimate and she captures you in such a feminine and sexy way.  You can view her portfolio and contact her to book your appointment at Bella Boudoir.
Please take a look at the video produced by Creative Films' Maura Coleman.  Her videos are just brilliant.  You can view more of her videos here.

Crown of flowers

I have been just awful about posts lately.  I have had several photo shoots lately.   A couple of weeks ago I shot again with photographer Mark Shaiken.  Our model for the day was Theresa, she has such a gorgeous face. One of the inspirations that I had for our shoot was to use a crown of flowers.  As I was browsing in my favorite vintage/antique shop; Good Company, I found this great head band that has blue and gray flowers.  I thought it was perfect!!!

Something New..

This weekend was a blast!  Not only did I do makeup for one of my favorite models in the KC area but I also had the pleasure of doing makeup for a new client who is a past Miss Nebraska.
The first shoot involved Michele, she is just the sweetest girl and what a gorgeous one as well!  We spoke about a boho inspired look combined with lace, florals and beach themes.  In the first image the makeup is soft and "peachy-bronze".  I used a combination of MAC's romp, ricepaper, and folie for her eyeshadows.  On her cheeks I used one of my favorite bronzers by Smashbox called Softlights.  And for her lips I used Smashbox's candid lipgloss.
In the second and third images I used a combination of humid, swimming, and yellow chrome for her eyes.  On her lips is gaga gloss by MAC.
And in the last image I changed her eyes by adding greensmoke and nehru by MAC to her first look to smoke it up a bit.
I had so much fun on this shoot!  I'm a boho girl at heart so these looks are easy for me.
Mark Shaiken is the photographer on both of these shoots, he does such a great job and is a very nice guy to work with.

Last night's shoot was with former Miss Nebraska, Belinda.  What a sweet girl, a real pleasure to work with as well.  She drove up in the pouring rain  from Nebraska, with her fiance for this photo shoot.   I hope she loves the outcome.
What a gorgeous girl! Jen Thomas of the Last Tangle Salon created the beautiful waves on her hair.
The first look I used Nocturnelle, rice paper and swiss chocolate by MAC on her eyes, Smashbox's brow tech in Brunette.  On her cheeks I used a matte Bronze and Melba by MAC and on her lips I used MAC's Pop Mode gloss with Vino liner.
In the last image I did a softer more commercial look using bronze, romp, and rice paper on the eyes and MAC's Melba blush and on her lips I used MAC's lipstick in Siss and Viva Glam Gaga 2.

R Treasures Boutique/ KCFW

Kansas City Fashion Week, happened a couple of weekends ago.  I was thrilled to be the head makeup artist and stylist for R Treasure's Boutique's fashion show.
Roxanne Gary is the owner and head fashionista at the on-line boutique. She carries very fashion-forward accessories and handbags that are in trend.  I have worked closely with her on her photo shoots and fashion shows.  The wardrobe concept was color-blocking in bright, bold colors that really bring out the summer spirit.
The makeup concept for the show was "beach inspired".  Gold/bronze shadows with bright glossy lips in orange or pink.  I tried out these new glosses,  Revlon Colorburst. I was very impressed.  They were super shiny and stayed on well.  The colors are magnificent, I will definitely be purchasing more colors for my kit.   The glosses  that I used at the fashion show were a bright orange called Sparkle, I paired that on top of MAC's Morange to make it "pop" and Strawberry over MAC's Girl About Town for a crazy bright lip!  Loved it!!!

I assisted Roxanne on wardrobe styling for the runway as well! We pulled these great pieces from various shops and boutiques in Kansas City including The Garment District in the Power & Light district, F21, Express and Target. Yep, you can always rely on these stores for great pieces to coordinate with bright accessories.
Here are some images from behind the scenes and on the runway.  Hope you enjoy!

Btw... Roxanne is offering my readers a 10% discount on any new spring/summer handbag online, just enter code SS12.

Hat's Off...

I had a great time last weekend when I styled (makeup and hair) for a photo shoot for photographer Mark Shaiken.  I help him select experienced models or models that I think have great potential.  Last weekend's model was Kirsten Moore.  She is one spunky little dish! Luckily she loves hats as much as Mark, so we had fun using a turban (I have a thing for turbans) and a cute little black hat, that had an Annie Hall feel to it.  My fave image is the one with the black hat.  Which one do you like?

The makeup used in the above image:  MAC Face &Body in C3, eyes:
MAC pigment in Gold Mode, and soba in the crease. Black track for liner
the lip gloss was custom blended.

A Very Memorable Wedding

Last October, I was lucky enough to be hired by one of the sweetest brides; Erin.
So pretty and so sweet she's the kind of the bride that makes me love my job even more than I already do.!  I do truly love what I do!
Here are some images from Tracy Routh Custer Photography.  She's pretty fabulous as well!
The bridal party got ready at the Hilton President hotel and one my most reliable and talented artist friends helped me out with her large wedding party. Thanks Loria!
I just died over Erin's dress!  Dont you agree? Fab!

Makeup used on Erin:  foundation:  MAC prolongwear in Nc20 and NC30- I like to mix. ;)
my all-time fave blush:  MAC dainty
and on her lips:  MAC subculture lipliner and Laura Mercier gloss in Bellini.
On her eyes I used:  MAC jest, soba, satin taupe and bronze with blacktrack liner.

A Stormy Day..

This past November I had the chance to collaborate with two of my favorite people for a very fun and inspiring day of shooting.  Neal Troester the photographer and one half of the team of Lemon-Lime Photography, developed this concept and Jen Thomas (super-talented hair stylist) and I helped him execute it.  One of the top models in Kansas City Megan Seithel was the star of the day.
Neal found this undisclosed spot that had once been a tornado shelter and that I discovered was not the setting of the Wizard of Oz (LOL, inside joke).  It was a freezing day but Megan is always a trooper and you wouldn't even notice she was one big giant goose bump.
I hope you enjoy the images.

Hair by Jen Thomas owner of  The Last Tangle Salon. Makeup by me.

The makeup look was created using:
MAC face and body foundation in N1,
Eyes: MAC pigment in pink bronze, wedge in the crease and bronze in the corner.
Blacktrack eyeliner
and cheeks MAC Harmony
Lips Boots No. 7 in Melon
with MAC N1 (oldie but goodie)
